60 years ago this week, from the June 30, 1958 feature: “CHARGED CHARMS OF BRIGITTE—Bardot, Boom Balloons In The U.S.” According to LIFE, “Not since the Statue of Liberty has a French girl lit such fires in America and Brigitte Bardot does not just stand there like a statue.” This image ran with the following caption: “An owlish Bardot pulls down the dark glasses she has been wearing against the Spanish sun’s glare and gives her eye make-up a critical examination.
